SUSTEP program introduced in Vietnam
Dec 5 , 2012

From November 18 to 24, 2012, Prof Y. Higano and Assoc. Prof Z. Lei visited Vietnam. Their major task was to further discuss the SUSTEP program in detail with Vietnam National University, Hanoi University of Science (VNU-HUS) and then to negotiate with Vietnam International Education Development (VIED). Besides, they were designated for attending the Japan Education Fair held in the University of Da Nang, Vietnam.

The business meeting between VNU-HUS and University of Tsukuba (UT) achieved fruitful results. The two sides agreed on completion year, academic requirements, quota, tuition fees exemption, subjects classification, and maximum transferable credits for double degree in the SUSTEP program. Two memorandums and a tentative agreement took shape with respect to above mentioned aspects. The followed-up negotiation with VIED made the future steps for the SUSTEP program more clear. The successful meeting was attributed to the strong supports and close co-operations between the program leaders in VNU-HUS and UT, respectively.

Thanks to the arrangement of Prof T. Shine and the Vietnam National University, Hanoi-Kyoto University Collaboration Office (VKCO), Prof Higano and Assoc. Prof Lei had an opportunity to take part in the Japan Education Fair held on Nov 22, 2012 in the University of Da Nang. On the Education Fair, it’s very pleased to find that many high school students are interested in UT, and undergraduates, graduates, and young staffs in universities are interested in the SUSTEP program. Some of them can speak Japanese and English very well and expressed their strong desires of future studying in UT. After meeting with Prof Tran Van Nam, the President of the University of Da Nang, more Vietnamese universities and institutes could be considered into the network of SUSTEP program in the near future.
