The first EDL Debate of this academic year was held on May 25 and
about 20 students attended. The topic of this debate was "How can we maintain the balance between hunger and
obesity?"
During the debate, students watched some videos on the issues such as world population growth, food production and food shortage and poverty and global economic growth. After watching these videos, students discussed population growth and related problems in different countries. Later they discussed the gap in awareness; value, access to food, global and local markets and the development process between developed and developing countries.
All these discussions helped students to gain a deeper understanding of the problems, complexity and dynamics of population and food production.
Students have divided into two groups and they are expected to hold two EDL debates in June. These are not EDL required classes however we strongly recommend all EDL students participate as faculty believe these events will enhance students’ abilities in communication, organization and planning.
